Each year the players get faster, more accurate with their strikes and bring more power into their shots and tackles. This year was no walk in the park for the champions, and the sponsors recognised this as well. Samsung, First National Bank (FNB) and Mugg & Bean contributed in a number of ways across the tournament, to the gratitude of the sporting students.
Izelle Verster was awarded the prestigious title of overall FNB Player of the Tournament. Her prize was accompanied by a R5000 injection into an FNB Horizon Series Unit Trust for her to secure her future with. Moving away from traditional prize money, sponsors like FNB are beginning to encourage a culture of saving, particularly in youth events and sports tournaments.
While celebrating the deserved championship title, it’s unlikely that the Tuks ladies hockey team will let their guard down completely. Their aim is to maintain the lead heading into the next Varsity Hockey tournament and continue their upward trajectory overall.
