South Africa is one of the world’s most sought-after destinations for marathons, and for good reason too. The Soweto Marathon has grown to become a world-renowned event, bringing runners together from all walks of life. In conjunction with the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon (OMTOM), the Soweto Marathon forms part of an iconic sporting experience for international runners.
Set to start and finish at the FNB Stadium in Gauteng, the route will take participants past other local landmarks such as the Hector Pieterson Memorial and Walter Sisulu Square. With a 10km, 21.1 km and 42.2km option, there’s something to be enjoyed by all runners, and the support is a unique sight to behold. It’s worth noting that the event has also become so popular because the organising team have done such a fantastic job over the years.
Runners will have access to a designated zone where their personal effects can be secured during the race; hydration stations will be set up at 3km intervals and, of course, rapid response vehicles will be ready to attend to anyone in need at the start or finish and along the route. Entries close at the end of June so there’s still time for you to get yours in. Visit the official Soweto Marathon website to get all the race info you need, and have all your questions answered.
