Having gone through multiple revisions, today’s South African Monopoly board continues to entertain families with its featured national landmarks however Durbanites are in for a treat! The original fast-dealing property trading game has confirmed that a specialised new game board will be released, featuring iconic streets and suburbs of Durban as we know it today.
Monopoly has become a classic household name, and even a family tradition, in many parts of the world. Licensed in over 100 countries, variations include electronic payments, collectors’ editions like Marvel Universe and Game of Thrones as well as Monopoly Junior and Monopoly Deal. Durban residents have been engaged in the street and suburb selection process and are looking forward to the release of the local game board in November 2017.
Having only launched in 2016, the updated Cape Town version has sold out of many retailers, and has been a bestseller on online stores as well, being shipped to destinations around SA and even abroad. Riding a wave of nostalgia, Durbanites remember the national board which featured a few of Durban’s landmarks, like Musgrave Road and West Street. Pre-orders are expected to be taken from as early as September to ensure that Monopoly fans are not disappointed.
“Durban has long been one of the regions on our list of targets, and this year seems like the perfect year for us to create the Monopoly Durban regional version. We’re extremely excited to see how it’s received and have high hopes that Durban will be the second of many South African regional Monopoly games to be launched in upcoming years,” concludes Osborne.
