Having attracted some of South Africa’s most influential companies to exhibit on the day, the Durban edition of My Business Expo connected aspiring entrepreneurs with each other on Thursday 22 June 2017. Months of consistent planning, marketing efforts and a well-organised logistics set-up meant the National Small Business Chamber (NSBC) inspired and assisted hundreds of entrepreneurs-in-the-making with one swift move. Heavy hitters on the country’s business field included Ford South Africa, DHL and ABSA.
The idea behind the expo has always been to inspire members of the public toward genuinely considering entrepreneurship as a career. The variety of exhibition stands are meant to showcase the fact that any idea can be turned into a successful reality, with the right mix of passion, determination and strategic action. We even got the chance to catch up with Bathabile Mpofu, Founder of Chemstart!
Other stands, like Subway’s, focused on becoming a franchisee and sharing knowledge about what’s required, what’s offered and what it really takes to be a part of a successful chain. Royal Fields Finance also made an appearance, discussing credit finance opportunities for small and micro-sized enterprises (SME’s). In addition to the stalls, of course, was a thrilling line-up of seminars from keynote speakers.
Leanne Rhodes offered compelling tips on how to begin and grow a small business in the current South African economic landscape. Her experience and success in the business world was certainly appreciated by the hundreds who diligently sat through the day’s proceedings, making notes and recording Rhodes’ own story. Overall the day turned out to be successful and hardly a delegate walked away without learning something new.
