In a “spectacular show of generosity and opulence”, the Cape Wine Auction broke their own record by raising R22.3 million at the Antonij Rupert Wine Estate on Saturday 11 February. The proceeds will be allocated to 22 beneficiaries who make a profound impact on education and the lives of children in the Cape Winelands. Bidders battled it out for exotic travel opportunities, luxury accommodation and limited edition wines in what appeared to be the most thrilling experience for a good cause.

At over R3mil on its own, a bespoke experience in Napa Valley roped in the title of highest paid lot in the history of the auction’s existence. A Lionel and Anton Smit collaborative sculpturecreated especially for the auction and standing at a height of 3m sold for R1.2m. The Cape Wine Auction team expressed their overwhelming gratitude for the bidders’ generosity. The team aimed to raise R15m and was left speechless at the final amount donated on the day.
